On the 26th of February 2016, Userhub Africa organised its first focus group/workshop at the Robin Hood Hotel in Accra- Ghana. The session commenced with Davidson Eli-Zafoe (Co-founder) and Ms. Funmi Odushola (Advisor) giving an overview of Userhub Africa and why there is a current need for User Experience practice and market research in Africa, with specific reference to the Ghanaian and Nigerian markets.
Participants were invited from various sectors to discuss the trajectory of UX (User Experience) in the Ghanaian and African market. The focus group was well attended with a lot of rich ideas exchanged. There was a consensus that more needs to be done to entrench the practice of User Experience(UX) and User Interface (UI) design in product and application development. It was underscored that the adoption of general principles of UX and design by businesses and technology stakeholders would allow them to meet the changing needs of consumers and to avoid user resistance.
The event was later followed by two remote sessions, with the first depicting the day to day running of a UX lab which was promoted by Kevone Bennett from Mediabarn Inc. Our advisor, Kevone Bennett explained in detail what goes into running a UX lab. The second session centred on the subject ‘Adapting Participatory Research for Business Development & Product Design‘, facilitated by Ariel Sim (Advisor).
